  • The Heart of the Hostel, Miniature Fashion, and Tropical Heat: A Cultural Walk Through Kraków

Dear Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

At Hostel Deco, we know very well that the true heart of any home – especially one with an artistic soul – is the shared kitchen. It is here, surrounded by interwar-inspired interiors, that the paths of travelers from all over the world cross. While everyone prepares their meals according to their own recipe, it is at our shared table that the most fascinating stories and plans to conquer Kraków are born.

If you feel a sense of nostalgia for daily rituals and domestic history, let us take you seamlessly from our hostel kitchen to an extraordinary exhibition at the Museum of Engineering and Technology (15 św. Wawrzyńca St.) titled “Kitchen Essentials” (Kuchnia od kuchni). The exhibition in a fascinating way reveals the evolution of historic homes – from centuries-old coal stoves and larders to iconic Polish kitchen robots like “Bartek” and vintage electric roasters.

  • When to visit: The exhibition is a long-term temporary display open until March 31, 2028, so there is no need to rush!

From Household Props to Great Literature: “Dolls in the Spotlight”

Speaking of domestic spaces, the next stop leads us directly into the atmosphere of classic literature. With period dramas and literary adaptations being as popular as ever (who among us hasn’t followed the fate of the characters in Bolesław Prus’s iconic novel The Doll?), Apteka Designu (19A Kopernika St.) invites you to the exhibition “Dolls in the Spotlight”.

It is a delightful journey back in time to the 19th and interwar world of miniatures. You will admire unique porcelain and wax dolls once – icons of style and fashion – alongside intricately crafted dollhouses and miniature tea sets.

  • When to visit: The exhibition is open only until November 30, 2026, so it is definitely worth adding to this week’s itinerary!

Art, History, and Modernity at Bunkier Sztuki

To wrap up our weekly tour, let’s head to the very heart of the Old Town. At the Bunkier Sztuki Gallery of Contemporary Art (3a Szczepański Sq.), Kinga Nowak’s exhibition titled “Rzar mi tropikuw” awaits you.

This intriguing contemporary clash brings together painting and sculpture with colonial motifs, folk art, and historical European perspectives on the “exotic.” The display masterfully bridges echoes of past eras with modern artistic commentary.

  • When to visit: On display until January 3, 2027.

After a day of exploring Kraków’s culture, return to Hostel Deco to share your impressions with us and fellow travelers in our common areas!
